foot issue

due to osteomyelitis, bones in my foot and ankle deteriorated

Me in St Bernardine’s, October 2024. I watched the Dodgers win the World Series from this bed.

it started with my big toe swelling in mid July

I had to remove my toe nail because it jabbed into my skin, then my toe started leaking puss

the toe became infected, then it spread to the next toe

My last day at work was 8-30-2024. I had a necrotic infection which spread to the rest of the foot. The pain was incredible, and I called in sick on the Tuesday after Labor Day.

I still had hope it would get better, but instead it got worse. I arranged to have a leave of absence. My medical insurance did not kick in until October 1st. On that day, I checked myself in to the ER.

I had 3 surgeries while staying at St Bernardine’s. The picture above is after the 2nd one. Necrotic bacterial fluid had traveled up my leg. It could have kept going to the rest of the body and killed me if I didn’t have the operations.

This is after my 3rd and final surgery. Everything went successfully, and staples were put in at the stump below my knee.

I slept on this bed for 3 1/2 weeks in October

I have a strong inner child which keeps me in good spirits

diagnosis: osteomyelitis, cellulitis, and diabetic foot ulcers

I have a workers comp attorney who is working on the case

John and Jose kept me company at St Bernardine’s almost every day in October

John takes me to appointments Monday through Friday, and Jose takes me grocery shopping on the weekends, until I get my prosthetic foot and I’m able to drive again
